Lies Every Legalist Believes
The Christian life is easily distorted by subtle legalism that confuses what God has done with what believers must do. In Galatians 3:2–3, Paul exposes two lies: that obedience saves and that obedience sanctifies. He reminds the Galatians that justification and sanctification flow from one source—God’s grace in Christ. Grace is both the way in and the way forward. The Spirit who initiates faith also provides the power for holiness, freeing believers from the exhausting work of self-reliance and producing instead a humble obedience, grounded in gratitude for and dependence on God’s grace alone.
