The Sinner Seeking Savior
Through the story of Zacchaeus, as recounted in Luke’s gospel, we see a picture of God’s sovereign grace and effectual call. In seeking Jesus, Zacchaeus discovers that Jesus is actually the one pursuing him. Jesus sees Zacchaeus and calls him by name, provocatively confronting the self-righteousness of the gathered crowd. Jesus wasn't looking for good people in the crowd that morning—his purpose was and is to rescue those who are lost. Salvation comes to each of us by personal invitation from Jesus. He sees us, knows us, and calls us by name.
