The Danger of a Distorted Gospel
In Galatians 1:8–9, Paul warns that there is only one true gospel: salvation through Jesus Christ alone. Any distortion—whether Jesus plus works, or Jesus plus politics—is no gospel at all, but a poison that leads to death. Paul insists that anyone, even an apostle or an angel who deviates from the gospel should be anathema. Holding fast to the gospel is a matter of life and death—to add or subtract from Christ’s finished work is to deny him. Our only hope of salvation is to be clothed in the righteousness of Christ imputed to us by his grace.
