A Meeting of Utmost Importance
Paul recounts a meeting of utmost importance—his visit to Jerusalem to confirm that the gospel he preached among the Gentiles was the same gospel proclaimed by the apostles. United by divine revelation, Paul, Barnabas, and Titus defended the truth that salvation comes by grace alone through faith alone, because of Christ alone. Against false teachers who sought to add works or law-keeping, they stood firm, preserving the freedom believers have in Christ. As Galatians 2:1–10 shows, their unity affirmed one gospel for all people—Jesus plus nothing—so that the truth might be proclaimed without compromise.
