Two Men, Two Trees
How can two men represent the whole of human history? In Romans 5, Paul explains that through the disobedience of one man, Adam, all of humanity became subject to sin and death. Yet, through the obedience of one man, Jesus, those who believe in him are given the gift of righteousness and eternal life. The cross did not take Jesus by surprise—it was the sole purpose of the mission given to him by his Father. Christ, who knew no sin, became a curse for us in order to redeem us from the curse of sin.
