The Anchor of Our Assurance
In Romans 8, Paul presents the astounding truth at the heart of the gospel—God is for us. For the believer, there is no sin or circumstance that can separate us from his all encompassing love. He did not send his Son to merely die for our sins, but also to live for our righteousness. On the cross, our sin was placed on Christ, and his righteousness was placed on us—a double imputation. Because our standing before God is based solely on the perfect righteousness of Christ, in him, we are eternally secure.
