A Famine of Hearing
God desires to speak to his people and he uses his Word to reveal to us his very nature. In chapter 8 of Amos, Israel was a prosperous nation but had turned away from God's Word. God called the prophet Amos to warn Israel that because of their disobedience, God was going to judge them. God would remove his revelation—leaving them with access to the Scriptures but with no understanding of them. Believers today can learn from this lesson by listening to Amos's warning and taking every opportunity to study the Scriptures so that God can speak through his Word.
