The Plumb Line
Through the prophet Amos, God warned his people that they were ignoring the covenant he had made with them and the law that he had provided to them as a plumb line of correction. The Israelites were clinging to a religion that had no acknowledgment of sin and no need for atonement. Such religious practice was abhorrent to God. Through Amos and others like him, God provided prophets so that we might hear his word, and seek not religion, but him. Through Jesus, God provided his Son to atone for our sins once and for all, and because of Christ, we can hear his word, seek him, and live.
