Jesus: High Priest of a New Order
In this passage from Hebrews 5:1-10, the author compares Jesus to the high priests of the Old Testament. These priests related to the people, both in their sin and their own weakness, and made regular sacrifices for atonement. Jesus, in contrast, is the perfect High Priest. Sinless, yet completely human, on the cross he makes one sacrifice that never needs to be repeated. He is the high priest of a new order who lives as the reigning king and eternal high priest.
